Here’s What You’ll Want To Read In July

Have you read Buried by Ellison Cooper yet? You are in for a treat! This is an exciting suspense novel that is dark and chilling, just how I like my books!

Synopsis:

Senior Special Agent Sayer Altair studies the minds of psychopaths. But even she didn’t expect to uncover a killer within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Rooting him out and exposing internal corruption got her a bullet wound and six months of desk duty. Now, she’s finally back in the field, called in when an off-duty FBI agent and his cadaver dog fall into a sinkhole filled with human bones.

Found deep in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, the skeletal remains date back almost two decades, the same time a beloved local teen disappeared. The cold case quickly heats up when Sayer’s team finds two fresh corpses among the bones. When a gruesome clue ties these new bodies to a woman recently kidnapped along with her young daughter, Sayer has to uncover the connection between the old bones and the new bodies before the mother and child become the next victims.

But the killer is one step ahead, attacking her team and sabotaging their efforts. With Sayer’s investigation compromised and unsure of who to trust, she receives unwanted help from Subject 037, one of the anonymous psychopaths she is currently studying. She has the chilling realization that he’s someone powerful in Washington D.C.—and he is not about to let a mundane serial killer jeopardize his own ominous agenda for Sayer…

If you enjoy crime stories, if you are a Murderino (fans of My Favorite Murder will get this), if you seek stories that keep you on the edge of your seat or staying up late into the night, then you must get this book.

Buried was just published so its brand spanking new! Get yourself a copy and enjoy it!

Want to read about family dysfunction? Then get Hideaway by Nicole Lundrigan. Told from the perspectives of the kids, this story is disturbing, your heart will break for the children. I hate to think people like the characters in the book actually exist.

Synopsis:

Gloria Janes appears to be a doting suburban mother and loving wife. But beyond her canary-yellow door, Gloria controls her husband, Telly, as well as seven-year-old Maisy and her older brother Rowan, through a disorienting cycle of adoration and banishment.

When Telly leaves, Gloria turns on Rowan. He runs away, finding unlikely refuge with a homeless man named Carl, with whom he forms the kind of bond he has never found with his parents. After they are menaced by strangers, Rowan follows Carl to an isolated cottage, where he accidentally sets off a burst of heightened paranoia in Carl, and their adventure takes a dark turn.

Gloria is publicly desperate for the safe return of her son while privately plotting ever wilder ways to lure Telly home for good. Her behaviour grows more erratic and her manipulation of Maisy begins to seem dedicated toward an outcome that only she can see. The two storylines drive relentlessly toward a climax that is both shocking and emotionally riveting.

Suspenseful, unsettling, and masterful, Hideaway explores the secrets of a troubled family and illuminates an unlikely hero and a source of unexpected strength.

I really do love reading about true crime because the old adage, truth is stranger than fiction is very true. This book proves that point. Meet The Black Widow by Linda Calvey gives the reader a detailed look inside the world of gangsters and criminal activities. Plus it takes place in England and I pretty much love everything that hails from over there including books.

Growing up after the war in the East End of London, Linda falls in with local gangsters including the Krays, Freddie Foreman and Ronnie Cook. When the love of her life, Mickey Calvey, is gunned down on a job gone wrong, Linda resolves to carry on his work.

But in 1990, after years of living in fear of her lover Ronnie Cook, Linda finds herself accused of his murder alongside Danny Reece, in a trial that shocks the nation. Still, Linda sticks to her code of honour, refusing to confess.

Until now…

After 18 years behind bars alongside notorious names including Rose West and Myra Hindley, she is released. This is the final truth about her life and what happened the day Ronnie Cook was murdered.

If you are a fan of true crime as I am, you are going to want to read this book! What an insane life the author has lived. Get it here.

I’ll sum up Her Sister’s Secret by E.V. Seymour with one word: secrets.  This is a thriller that will have you questioning every character and wondering who is hiding what, and why?

I’m so excited about The Forgetting Flower by Karen Hugg!

What a beautifully written novel by an author I cannot wait to read more from. Get your hands on it right now!

Secrets and half-truths. These litter Renia Baranczka’s past, but the city of Paris has offered an escape and the refuge of a dream job. The specialty plant shop buzzes with activity and has brought her to a new friend, Alain. His presence buffers the guilt that keeps her up at night, dwelling on the endless replays of what happened to her sister.

All too suddenly, the City of Light seems more sinister when Alain turns up dead. His demise threatens every secret Renia holds dear, including the rare plant hidden in the shop’s tiny nook. It emits a special fragrance that can erase a person’s memory—and perhaps much more than that.

As Renia races to figure out the extent of the plant’s powers, she’s confronted by figures from her past who offer a proposal she can’t outright refuse. Bit by bit, she descends into a menacing underworld of blackmarket mobsters, navigating threats and fending off abuse to protect the safe peaceful life she’s worked so hard for. Desperate to outwit her enemies, Renia maneuvers carefully, knowing one wrong move will destroy not only the plant, but the lives of her sister and herself.

This is a fantastic book, I highly recommend it. I’m not the only one who loved it, The Forgetting Flower is getting awesome reviews.  Here’s the link to buy it.

This novel, Trance by Adam Southward, is at the top of my TO-READ list right now. From the description below, I knew I had to get my hands on this one because it sounds like a good old fashioned suspense novel with some interesting elements that will grab my attention and not let go.

Synopsis:

Three university scientists are found dead in a gruesome murder-suicide, and the only suspect in the case, Victor Lazar, is quickly captured. When the spate of violent suicides follows him to prison he is moved to solitary confinement, reserved for the highest-risk inmates. And then his assigned psychologist inexplicably takes his own life.

Alex Madison, a former forensic psychologist turned private therapist, is brought in to interview Victor. He suspects that Victor is controlling his victims, somehow coaxing them into a suggestive trance. It seems like science fiction, but as Alex digs deeper he uncovers a frightening reality of secret research and cruel experimentation—and the perpetrators are closer to home than he could ever have imagined.

Too late, Alex learns the true extent of what Victor is capable of—and who he’s after. With everything he holds dear at risk, can Alex take control of a dangerous mind—before it takes control of him?

If you like a little sci-fi in your stories and you enjoy being creeped out, this is a book for you. Trance is free if you have Kindle Unlimited.   Or you can buy it here!

I read The Heart Keeper by Alex Dahl in one day! Captivated by the plot, I was definitely curious how everything was going to unfold. As I have mentioned many times before, I get tired of seeing the same recycled ideas in books and when I find a new storyline, I get very excited!

Here’s what the book is about:

When Alison’s beloved daughter Amalie drowns, her world turns impenetrably dark.  Alison tries to hold it together throughout the bleak Fall, but in the darkest days of the Norwegian winter she completely falls apart.

In another family, Amalie’s passing is a new beginning. After years of severe health problems, young Kaia receives a new heart on the morning after Amalie drowns. Her mother Iselin has struggled to raise Kaia on her own and now things are finally looking up. She’s even made an affluent new friend who’s taken a special interest in her and her daughter.

Alison knows she shouldn’t interfere, but really, she’s just trying to help Iselin and Kaia. She can give them the life they never had, and by staying close to them, she can still be with her daughter. Kaia is just like her, and surely, something of Amalie must live on in her. As her grief transforms into a terrifying obsession, Alison won’t let anything stop her from getting back what she has lost.

The book is more of an emotional ride than a thriller as Alison grapples with the aftermath of her daughter’s death. I had hoped it would be more of scary suspense and its not. But its a really good book and one you should read if you are looking for an excellent novel that will pull you in and won’t let go. I liked the character of Iselin, the young mother trying to make ends meet while caring for her daughter.

This book is hot off the press! Get it here.

Close friends and secrets, what could be more relatable? The Scandal by Nicola Marsh is a twisty ride of a thriller!
